THINGS TO DO

 

Termes d'Armagnac is a small medieval village nestled in the heart of the Gers, the most rural department in France.  If you want peace and relaxation, looking over the Pyrenees, then this is the perfect place.  If you want activities, the region has plenty to offer.

The village itself is famous for its 35-metre medieval tower providing stunning views of the Pyrenees.  The site is used for various medieval-themed events throughout the year.  Further details at www.tourdetermes.fr.  We are also close to the famous Marciac Jazz Festival, which runs for three weeks over the summer, and has some of the world's leading musicians playing.

There are some lovely bastide fortified towns and villages to visit in the area, including:

  • Montreal du Gers

 

Perfect for a day trip, and a little further afield there are:

  • Auch

  • Bayonne

  • Biarritz

  • Bordeaux

Activities

  • Wine tasting - the Madiran and Saint Mont vineyards are close-by

  • Golf - the area has some excellent 18 hole golf courses, including Europe's oldest in Pau, www.paugolfclub.com

  • Course Landaise - watch bull jumping and agility displays in the local arenas

  • Spas, including Eugenies les Bains and Bagneres de Bigorre

  • Local cuisine - Gascony is famous for its cuisine and you won't be disappointed - there are great places to eat to suit every budget

  • Horseriding.  Horses are available for riding nearby, including through the vineyards

  • Lakes for walking, swimming and sunbathing

Fetes & Festivals

Throughout the summer there are lots of fetes and concerts throughout the region, including:

Marciac Jazz Festival - a fantastic three-week festival which takes place in July and August and is a key event in the music festival calendar in France

In nearby Vic Fezensac, there's a four-day salsa festival, which takes place every July, and is now in its 20th year

There's also Les Moissons d'été, a contemporary 5 day theatre festival set in the woods of Termes d'Armagnac which takes place each summer.  www.lesmoissonsdete.com
